How to verify a CBE receipt
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) is the largest bank in Ethiopia with over 70 million customers. If you received a CBE receipt and want to confirm it's real, here's how to verify it.
What you need
- • FT reference number — starts with "FT" followed by 11 characters
- • Account number — your CBE account (8-14 digits)
Step 1: Find your FT reference
The FT reference is on your CBE receipt. It looks like FT25211G11JQ.
If you received an SMS, the reference is in the message body.
Step 2: Enter the reference
Go to txna.me/verify, select "CBE" as the bank, and paste your FT reference into the input field.
Step 3: Add your account number
CBE requires your account number to verify FT references. Enter the 8-14 digit account number that received the transfer. This is needed because CBE's API requires it to look up the transaction.
Step 4: Click Verify
Tuna will call CBE's API, parse the receipt PDF, and return the verification result. You'll see the sender name, amount, date, and status — confirming whether the payment is real.
Common issues
"Reference not found"
Double-check the FT reference. It must be exactly 12 characters starting with "FT". If you have a different format, try pasting the full receipt URL.
"Account number required"
CBE FT references require an account number. Enter the account that received the transfer.
"Endpoint unreachable"
CBE's API may be temporarily down. Try again in a few minutes.
